Top Places & Self Catering Holiday Cottages in Stroud

Holiday Cottages in Stroud are plentiful in quantity and quality but almost impossible to book, especially in peak season! Stroud was recently named the Best Place to Live in the UK by The Sunday Times and there are good reasons for this. Some of these reasons are also why travellers come and stay in Holiday Cottages in Stroud.

Holiday in Stroud

A Holiday in Stroud could be just the ticket for anyone looking to get out of a city and away from it all. The locals are friendly, the pubs are historic and the scenery glorious. No matter what time of the year, Stroud exudes beauty.

We will be entering in to the Autumn soon (where did this year go?!) and the rolling hills of Stroud light up with colours, similar to those on the trousers of the local residents. The independent coffee shops will be selling their organic pumpkin spiced lattes and the small local pubs will be adding logs to their fireplaces. This all sounds idyllic right? But, as a visitor how would you know where to go? Do not worry, we have got you covered:

Places to Visit in Stroud

There are plenty of places to visit in Stroud, here is our selection of our favourite places.

Rococo Gardens

Rococo Garden

Painswick Rococo Garden is quirky and pretty unique.

Designed in the 1740s as a fanciful pleasure garden for the owner of Painswick House and his guests, today it’s a place to roam free, to get up close and personal with nature, or to feel the warmth of the sun on your face as you take in the spectacular views of the Cotswold countryside and magical follies.

Woodruffs Café

Woodruff Café offers Organic, Seasonal and vegetarian dishes on their menu. They also cater to pescatarians and those with a more specific diet too. The coffee and cakes go down a treat at Woodruffs and this is a real local favourite.

Woodchester Mansion

Woodchester Mansion is a unique and amazing Grade 1 listed Victorian Gothic house hidden in a beautiful Cotswold valley

It is an unfinished masterpiece. Building started about 1857 but stopped in the mid-1860s so floors and ceilings are missing, walls not plastered and windows unglazed. All the secrets of the construction of the Mansion are visible – something visitors will never see in another country house.

The Mansion was designed by a young local architect, Benjamin Bucknall from Rodborough. He produced a unique Gothic Revival house which blends the local traditional work in limestone with the ideas of the French architectural thinker Viollet-le-Duc.

Museum in the Park

The Museum in the Park is set in the beautiful grounds of Stratford Park in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Within the historic mansion the collection tells the fascinating story of the landscape and people of the Stroud District.

Situated in a Grade II listed 17th Century wool merchant’s house; our collection tells the fascinating story of the Stroud District’s rich and diverse history.  With over 4,000 objects on display, including dinosaur bones, historical paintings and even one of the world’s first lawnmowers, there is something to spark the interest of all visitors!

All of that sounds great, but where abouts in Stroud should you stay?
